Summer is here and I’m sure a lot of you will be embracing the weather and taking to your bikes and running trails. What better time to talk about injury prevention, relieving knee pain and improving flexibility?
The calf is made up of 2 muscles – the gastrocnemius (which starts just above the knee) and the soleus (which starts just below the knee). The calf muscle’s main job is to pull the foot down, like when you point your toes. You have to stretch the two muscles in a slightly different way, with a straight knee to bias gastrocnemius and with a bent knee to bias soleus.
To benefit fully for the least effort, you need to hold the stretch for 30 seconds and repeat it 3 times.
